As well as the city and its port, Algeciras offers its bay and, why not, Africa, being so close. The visitor can easily go to Tangiers or Ceuta, visit the Roman ruins of Carteia, play golf in San Roque, or even go to Gibraltar, “the mountain of Tariq”, a place full of reminiscences of al-Andalus too. Towards Tarifa and inland, there are numerous interesting places in the open air: beaches, hills all along the N-340 road, from which you can observe bird migration through the Strait, and, towards Los Barrios, the wide and wooded protected area of Los Alcornocales.
