Right in the centre of the city, is located Qasr Shabib. This small castle was mentioned in the travels of the famous Morrocan traveller Ibn Batuta. It was a haven for the weary pilgrims from Bilad al-Sham to al Hijaz. The small castle was heavily rebuilt in Ottoman times (1516 AD) but was restored by the Jordanian Department of Antiquities. The castle has a commanding view of the Zarqa River Basin.
